Things I'm Digging | February 2014

TV

We all know about my inclinations towards terrible TV shows. You've witnessed it many a time before (*coughs* Vampire Diaries and Twisted and to a certain extent, Pretty Little Liars) and now you will witness it again. Yes. Teen Wolf is my choice of the month. The first season is horrendous (there's no point denying it, it is horrendous), but lately it's been pretty top-notch. Really A+ writing, and I can't wait for each week's episode. It still has its problems (POC and women seem to be the only ones who die, and also I can't understand why Jeff Davis won't make Danny a main character?), but I think (hopefully) that's something they're working on. We'll see.

If you still don't want to watch it, just watch it for the cast. Honestly. It's the only reason I watched it for the first season. They're all ridiculously good-looking. It just isn't fair.


MOVIE

Frozen. I watched it for the first time in January, but I can't stop. Won't stop. I am obsessed. In the past week, I've watched it twice. I want Elsa's dress and hair, and I want to be friends with everybody, but maybe specifically Anna (or maybe just Kristen Bell. I don't know. Sometimes the lines blur). I still have a bit of trouble comprehending that it's a musical, but it's such a great movie. So good. Much great.


MUSIC

I'm going to go specific for once and say 'Burn' by Ellie Goulding. Top-rate effort, this song is. It just pumps me up like nothing else.


BOOK/S

I'm going to choose two books this month. One Non-Fiction, and one fiction. The Non-Fiction? Princesses Behaving Badly by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie. It's a collection of true stories about princesses throughout history that haven't taken the stereotypical road of 'happy ever after.' I really, really enjoyed this book. It was written in a really conversal tone, which made it so easy to read. The author did a whole heap of research, and wasn't afraid to tell the reader when she was speculating. Highly recommend this book.

The fiction novel I loved this month was Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone (by Kat Rosenfield). I was in the big Whitcoull's in Auckland when I found it on special. I'd heard some really good things about it and thought 'Why not?' and here we are. I really enjoyed this book. If for anything, read it for the writing. It is fantastically written. It's very much in the same vein as Nova Ren Suma (another author I adore), so if you like her novels, I definitely think you should try this one. It's just a novel that I think every young person who is leaving home for the first time will identify with (just maybe not quite so much in because someone has been murdered), and yes. All good things. A+.


MAKE UP/FASHION

I'm gonna go with my bottle of Daisy Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs. I just love Marc Jacobs, ok? Don't judge me.

My Love for Marc Jacobs Perfumes is Starting to Show

If there's got to be one good thing about Valentine's Day, it's the accompanying sales. You're all probably thinking I mean chocolate sales. This is understandable because I am a chocolate fiend, but that isn't the thing (though it is a nice side note). It's actually perfume.

I'm not sure if it's common knowledge, but here in Australia perfume is pretty pricey (and by pretty pricey, I actually mean really pricey). So, when I found out that Priceline was having a two day perfume sale, and that ALL perfume was going to be 40% off, I screamed. Then presently planned my ambush on the nearby store.

I've been a marginally huge fan of Marc Jacobs perfumes since Dot first caught my eye back in 2012. I had managed to snag an 100mL bottle of it while I was in England and have loved it ever since. Marc Jacobs is expensive though, so I've mostly spent my year coveting them from afar. Now I can successfully say I have added two more to my collection!

So, I guess I should tell you the ones I got? The two I bought were 'Daisy,' and 'Daisy Eau So Fresh.' I know, I know. It sounds like there isn't really any difference, but trust me. There is.

Now, smells/ingredients/things about the perfumes you might want to know:

Dot:

Top Notes - Red Berries

Mid Notes - Jasmine

Base Notes - Driftwood

Daisy Eau So Fresh:

Top Notes - Natural Raspberry, Grapefruit and Pear

Mid Notes - Violets, Wildrose and Apple Blossom

Base Notes - Musks, Cedarwood and Plum

Daisy:

Top Notes - Strawberry and Violet Leaves

Mid Notes - Violet Petals and Jasmine Bouquet

Base Notes - Musk and Vanilla Infusion

I don't know if you'd actually like to know any of this, but in case it helps you *visualise*, there you go.

Generally, with these sorts of things, I end up feeling mildly guilty. Won't lie though, I ain't even feeling that right now. More than anything, I'm feeling smug. And quietly pleased with myself. I bought two Marc Jacobs perfumes for the cost of $170. That sounds like a lot, but one 100mL bottle of Daisy in Australia is $149. So there.

Sales shopping at its finest. I guess this was a bit of a haul thing, but kind of not? I don't know. I just wanted to share my happy feelings with someone, and this is the end result.
